Introduction	My educational background is in sociology, history, criminal justice, literature, international studies, and a bit of dabbling in linguistics. On the side I make sporadic attempts at visual art in a variety of mediums, none of which I am particularly good at. When asked how I became interested in this diverse range of subjects, my response is "I received a Nintendo Entertainment System as a Christmas present in 1988." It sounds like some sort of cryptic Zen kōan, but it's an entirely accurate and truthful answer. When asked what kind of career is out there for someone with a background like that, my response is "Sycophantic courtier to a Renaissance-era Machiavellian prince." I keep checking the classified ads, but the positions rarely seem to come up these days.
