| Introduction | Most time I have a difficult time explaining what I do. I can talk about task analysis and heuristic evaluations and prototyping but the listener usually ends up glassy-eyed. If I explain that I design software I'm soon getting questions like "My printer doesn't work, what's wrong with it?" and "Can you help me set up my home wireless network? I'll pay you." I heard a co-worker use the expression "I put the friendly in user-friendly." and, with permission, I adopted it. Although "friendly" is a qualitative, not a quantitative measure and it is difficult to measure, it is the best 30 second elevator description I've come across. With this statement I will get nods in agreement; I've put the "friendly" in my job description. |
