Introduction I’m a professional wildlife photographer. Since 1981, I’ve made a living photographing everything from grizzly bears to bunny rabbits, songbirds to sharks. In the process, I’ve picked up some valuable skills, including how to capture an alligator’s best side, remove a snake from my arm, and persuade a monkey to say “cheese.” My work has appeared in books and magazines worldwide and I’ve been honored to receive international recognition for my work, including the National Outdoor Book Award, Benjamin Franklin Award, three Southeastern Outdoor Press Association Book of the Year Awards, and recognition in the International Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. Of course, I’ve also had my share of awful shots, missed shots, and shots that no one will ever love but me. I’ve smashed lens, drowned underwater cameras, lost exposed rolls of film that I just knew held the shot of a lifetime, and tried the patience of my publisher, my banker and my wife. It’s all a part of the adventure of wildlife photography.
