Introduction I'm Dave Waks, Co-Founder of Broadband Home Central, a website covering residential broadband. I started working with computers when I was 17, and have spent more than 25 years on consumer online services. I'm also a long-time pilot and fan of folk music. I started working with computers as a Cornell freshman in 1957, and got my first job in the computer industry when I graduated in 1961. I worked as a consultant from 1977 to 1984. Starting in 1982, I helped plan Prodigy, and joined in its first batch of employees. I led R&D at Prodigy from the time I joined in 1984 until I left at the end of 1994. Residential broadband was one of the key areas of our research; we had cable modems running in our lab in 1987 and started a test with real Prodigy customers in late 1993. After leaving Prodigy, all of my time has been spent with residential broadband. In the late 1990s we helped cable and telephone companies plan their entrance into high speed Internet services. During 2000 we started our website on residential broadband, and our free monthly newsletter for the industry.
