| Introduction | I am a half-Polish, half-Russian woman living in Oxford, England, with my husband of almost 15 years, Andrew, a high and mighty Scotsman. I was brought up and educated to university level in Poznan, Poland, and came to the UK in 1987 to do postgraduate research. I have worked in a variety of jobs, starting with library posts, going on to freelance editing, research and proof reading, to working for Microsoft on the Encarta encyclopedia. A bout of ill health forced me to look at my life differently. At the moment, I do voluntary work with people nearing the end of their lives, and I am also a support worker for Mencap, working with people experiencing learning difficulties. I "decompress" through pampering myself with lovely beauty products, taking long walk and interacting with my friends, both in "real life" and online. I am fortunate to live in Oxford, with all its resouces (libraries, museums, green open spaces) and its proximity to London and to some wonderful countryside.
