Introduction Alex has been involved with food justice and urban agricultural projects for the past 7 years. While completing her masters in Urban Planning at the London School of Economics, she worked with multiple urban gardening + agriculture projects (Hackney City Farm, Capital Growth, Farm:Shop, Food From the Sky), concentrating her research on the ability of urban agriculture projects to build more successful and integrated communities and contribute to local food security. Her work in London allowed her to increase the cities community food growing spaces and work with the Mayor’s office to improve funding and support for the projects. She currently works with multiple projects in the tri-state area, including Swag Project (Newark, NJ), Green Bronx Machine (Bronx, NY), and Garden State Urban Farms(Orange, NJ), educating community members and students about food justice, community planning issues, and nutritional and agricultural training projects. She has a BA in Sociology from Tulane University and in the past has worked with multiple agencies, including the United Way and Planting Seeds of Hope to address community development issues and social inequalities.
