About me

Introduction I've been in Indonesia since December 2009 as a Fulbright Scholar in Jogjakarta, the center of education and Javanese culture in Indonesia. I'm primarily here to research the impact of decentralization on maternal and child health care. Since arriving I've also become interested in the Islamic approach to environmentalism. I'm traveling around Indonesia, talking to academics, NGO workers, government officials and religious leaders about these two topics. My research is supported by Gadjah Mada University and the American Indonesian Exchange Foundation. This blog is not only about my research, but also about my life as a foreigner and academic abroad.
