| Introduction | Eat. Live. Laugh. Love…your tree? I’m sure you’ve had the thought. What does it mean? I didn’t know either until I had the chance to go on an amazing Femalempowerment ASB (Alternative Spring Break. On the trip, we watched a short clip of America the Beautiful, in which Eve Ensler describes an encounter she had while in Africa. After asking a woman whether she ‘liked her body,’ Ensler was met with a ‘look like [she] was crazy’ and an animated response—‘Like my body? Like my body? I love my body!’ The woman then went on to impart some wise words with Ensler: “Do you see that tree? Do you like that tree? Now look at that tree—do you like that tree? Do you say this tree isn’t pretty because it doesn’t look like that tree? You’re a tree; I’m a tree. You got to love your tree.” These words stuck with me. To me, loving your tree means so much more than cherishing yourself for who you are, it’s also about taking care of yourself. That’s the purpose of this blog—to make it just a little bit easier for you to love your tree, by ‘watering’ it with nourishing, wholesome meals. But don’t stop there—love your forest: your family and friends. Good food is meant to be shared—the more the merrier! |
