| Introduction | I began this blog to show the long path a writer of a nonfiction book for middle schoolers takes from idea until (hopefully) published book. Jackson Minteeng Liaram, a young Maasai warrior about whom I'm writing, has worked hard to become a successful guide in the Masai Mara in southern Kenya while still preserving and protecting his culture, one of the most exciting in the world. I'm anxious to tell his story. This book is a natural follow-up to THE LEAKEYS: A BIOGRAPHY (for information and two sample chapters, see my web site www.marybk.com). While researching that book, I fell in love with Kenya. Here I am (on the right.), holding a model of Paranthropus boisei (Zinj), a 1.8 million year old skull found by Mary Leakey. |
