Introduction	Valerie Silvers joined the City of Stillwater as the grants coordinator in 2009. She has nearly 20 years of federal and state grants experience, having previously worked in western Oklahoma where she was involved in grant writing and management; she then transferred to Stillwater as the assistant director. Silvers obtained her Bachelors degree in Business/Marketing from Oklahoma State University. She recently earned certification as a Homebuyer Education Professional. While the homebuyer program is Silvers favorite, she is responsible for oversight, management, coordination of many grants for the City. Silvers, finds great satisfaction with the Home Buyer Assistance program. “This grant provides visible assistance to citizens in the community by providing a down payment for families to purchase their first home.” Silvers has spent the past 23 years in Stillwater, where she reared four children and ran a wedding gown and special occasion business from her home. Silvers has always been active in the community, volunteering for Junior Service League, PTA , Booster Club, her church, and various other committees and advisory boards.
