IntroductionI'm a typical author. I have to sit through "You wouldn't steal a handbag" just like we all do as consumers, while corporate pirate/fraudsters hawk my works, as they do to millions of other authors. These stolen works appear with copyright claims made that are false, publication history that is often false, and perhaps the worst indignity of all: between leading paragraphs of our papers, Google ads often lounge, most often "Women from countries that suck want to meet you." I'd like to open the seas to flows of knowledge made available to all rather than the present status quo, where an author is a 0 in the data aggregators' wealth creation schemes. The rule of law as it is now enforced is a travesty of justice and a corruption of civil society for the private gain of not just pirates who steal with impunity but who declare with no expectation of being prosecuted, that they own the goods, and even that they published them in the first place. They rebrand them as such, obliterating true bibliographic data and ownership, like chop-shop thieves who grind out serial numbers, following in the tradition of professional, paintbrush- wielding pirates.
