| Introduction | Mandy Schutt is a birth and postpartum doula in Los Angeles. She was a school teacher for 10 years, has traveled the world, and currently lives in a fixer-upper in urban Los Angeles with her freaking awesome husband, Griffin, and daughter, Fauna. (She wishes she had a dog but plans on traveling a lot more and saying goodbye again and again is just too hard.) Griff and Mandy run a non-profit called, "A Wiser World", whose current project is establishing a school in India. This career woman, who told her husband before they were married that she never wanted kids, has somehow found herself in the best job she'd ever not-imagined; motherhood. She has many times found herself torn between what is the norm and what her instincts tell her to do as a mother and when she's cognicant enough to recognize this conflict within, always goes the instinctive route. Parenting feels good this way- less guilt, less tears, and lots more fulfillment. She encourages other parents to take a step back from our all-too-often suffocating cultural norms and question why they exist. If they feel wrong to you, sluff them off and search for a style that fits. |
