| Introduction | Soul Vang is the author of To Live Here (Imaginary Friend Press, 2014) and co-editor of How Do I Begin?: A Hmong American Anthology (Heyday, 2011). His poetry is anthologized in Tilting the Continent: Southeast Asian American Writing, How Much Earth: An Anthology of Fresno Poets, Bamboo Among the Oaks: Contemporary Writing by Hmong Americans, How Do I Begin? A Hmong American Literary Anthology, NEW CALIFORNIA WRITING 2012 and appears in publications: Abernathy Magazine, New York Times, Asian American Literary Review, San Joaquin Review, Central California Poetry Journal, Paj Ntaub Voice, In the Grove, and Packinghouse Review. He was born in Laos, fled the country in 1975, and spent a year in the refugee camp at Nongkhai, Thailand. He immigrated to Hawaii, where he stayed for three years, then moved to California. After service in the U. S. Army, which included postings to Germany, Texas/New Mexico, South Carolina, and Virginia, he returned to college and graduated with a BA in English, an MFA in Poetry, and a teaching credential from California State University, Fresno. |
