About me

Gender Female
Location Melbourne, Australia
Introduction Homeowner, cook, cinephile, stand-up philosopher (ok, bullshit artist) and carnal lover of the printed word, I am also an unashamed booster for the joys of a mortgage and conspicuous consumption. Clothes, cookware, furniture and accessories - if I want it I buy it. A visit to IKEA is foreplay, while a visit to Chapel Street Bazaar (Prahran) is the proverbial post-coital cigarette. Nicotine is bad, OK? This blog is about stuff I like and stuff I like to buy, borrow, beg for or steal. Or cook.
Interests Food, film, popular (and not so popular) culture, my Mac, my ravishingly handsome and brainy husband Muddy Karpitz, Red Karpitz - the Gen Yer I adopted to satisfy my latent maternal instincts (cheaper than a real, biological son and willing to listen to sartorial advice), reviving long-lost domestic arts - just not knitting or sewing or any of that single lonely cat-lady shit. Books, but not book clubs. They are the work of Satan. All-female ones are the work of Satan AND his spawn.
Favorite Movies Vertigo, Godfather II, Pursued, Out of the Past, Battle of Algiers, Bowfinger, Get Shorty, Persuasion (starring Amanda Root) but viewed only on Valentine's Day as part of the marriage ritual, Blazing Saddles, The (non-musical) Producers
Favorite Music Too ecumenical (read: undisciplined, random and promiscuous) to list.
Favorite Books The Corrections (Jonathan Franzen), The Longest Decade (George Megalogenis), Moneyball (Michael Lewis), Wolf Hall (Hilary Mantel), Runaway (Alice Munro), Nigella Bites (Nigella Lawson) - but only for the pictures. Also, anything by Seth Mnookin is always worth a look. Ditto Damian Thompson.
