| Introduction | I was a student of religious nationalism long before I knew what it was. It was not enough that I was born in Pakistan, I had to come off age during General Zia's rule. Religious nationalism was everywhere and itmade an impression on me too it too. After being a Pakistani civil servant and consultant/project manager for international organizations, I decided to explore religious nationalism further. So, I applied and got a PhD scholarship at age 39. I completed my PhD in 2015 by writing my dissertation on the role of religious nationalism in the politics of Turkey and Pakistan. In 2017, this dissertation was published as a book by Palgrave, titled State, Nationalism, and Islamization: Historical Analysis of Turkey and Pakistan. From 2016 to 2022, I was an academic. I did research and wrote articles and chapters on religion, politics, digital freedoms in countries like Pakistan, Turkey, Israel, Iran, and India. The blog, however, is not limited to these countries only. Wherever I see religious nationalism, I write about it whether it is Sri Lanka, Malta, Bhutan, Malaysia, Nicaragua, the US, or Ireland. Currently, I am again working as a consultant. |
