| Introduction | Heather MacIntosh is a writer and historian based in Washington, DC. She has published two books, The Story of Union Station in Seattle (1999, with Walt Crowley) and Rebuilding a Legacy: The Story of the Starbucks Center Building (2004). Other publications include guest editing the Winter 2003 issue of Arcade (a Northwest design journal) around the topic "Boomtown Politics and the New Public Architecture." She was recently President of Preservation Action, the national 501c4 nonprofit lobby for historic preservation (2004 - 2009). Prior to that, she was Historic Seattle's Preservation Advocate (2001 - 2004) and founder of Preservation Seattle, an award-winning online magazine dedicated to preservation issues in Seattle's neighborhoods. Prior to that, she was Deputy Director and architecture editor of HistoryLink.org (1998 - 2000), the first online encyclopedia of local history. |
