| Introduction | Afterdays Media is interested in examining our contemporary culture in the past tense. An archaeological perspective - created by decay or extinction - can be used to examine us, as well as those who came before us. During an archaeological excavation, objects are found in a decomposed or fragmentary state, and outside of their original context. What was once “garbage” becomes artifact, and even the smallest fragment is valued for its potential ability to speak from another time. However, that speech is filtered by time and decay. Afterdays Media focuses on contemporary culture through a similar filter. Established as a multi-media and publishing project in 2004, Afterdays Media publishes or supports music, video, exhibits, and books that provide archaeological views of modern popular culture. The Afterdays blog is written by a practicing archaeologist and founding member of the Fossil Aerosol Mining Project. |
