Introduction I’m a Chinese-Vietnamese mom with three kids, all born in the U.S. The challenge for me is to delicately balance Eastern and Western values in my kids’ upbringing. I try to instill both Chinese and Vietnamese cultures and traditions but at the same time allow my kids to be their own individual. I am aware that forcing things on them can result in many drawbacks. I explain why things are done in a certain way and way they’re continuously practiced today. Sometimes I get a “c’mon mom!” reaction and sometimes I get a “wow, that’s interesting” reaction. The most repeated word of advice I tell my kids, especially my teenage son, is “I can only guide you in the right direction in life, I can’t force you down that path”. More importantly, I teach my kids values and try not to give them everything they want. So here is the blog of my family and how I do it. These recorded chaotic and precious moments are intended for my kids to look back when they have kids one day so they can share with them what life was like growing up. Thanks for dropping by. Your comments are always welcome and appreciated.
