| Introduction | Now aged 70 years young, I am a Mackem (from Mackem & Tackem the making being ship building in what was the biggest shipbuilding town in the world)) which means I was born in Sunderland and remain a Mackem, or supporter of Sunderland AFC, the local football side. Following a grammar school education at Bede Grammar School, I joined the TSB as a bank clerk. At 21, I switched to the building society world, retiring early at 53 years. I have enjoyed a good 17 years since then in the buying and selling of antiques and collectables. For the last 30 plus years I have been a very keen runner, enjoying reasonable success at club level. I am also a keen salmon and sea trout fisherman. On the family side , I am married to Muriel, father to Chris & Sophie and grandpops to Alfie and Theo. I have had a pretty good life. |
