| Introduction | Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, since college graduation I've lived in Amsterdam, New York City, Washington DC, Oregon, Nevada and Newport Beach before finally making Nashville my home. I've managed to stay put for 14 years now and enjoy the small town-big city dichotomy here. My "day" job as a freelance writer allows me to spend my days hanging out with my Boston Terrier and Pug in my 75-year-old cottage that is a constant work in progress. I love DIY, decorating and collecting, so I finally rented space at a local antique mall to turn my obsession into a side business. |
| Interests | movies, decorating, DIY, music, pop culture, flea markets, travel, my dogs, power tools, jewelry making, family, the beach, the Nate Berkus Show, good friends who put up with my penchant for projects. |
| Favorite movies | That's like asking me to name my favorite people! Each has such a unique personality. That said, I love Amelie's quirkiness (that gnome!), Almost Famous' dialogue, Philadelphia Story's style, Little Miss Sunshine's dysfunction and many others for many other worthy traits. |
| Favorite music | Again, how do I choose between the nostalgic feeling I get from Crowded House or The Smiths and the newness of Bright Eyes or the moodiness of The Decemberists? Then there are singer-songwriters like Lori McKenna, Patty Griffin and Andrew Peterson who appeal to the writer in me. And an accent is always a draw, whether it's delivered with a sneer (Elvis Costello), witty wordplay (XTC) or a working class attitude (Billy Bragg). My time in Nashville has also given me a long-overdue appreciation for Johnny Cash, and I'm not too proud to admit that I'll sing along to cheesy pop-rock from a wide range of young bands or travel back in time with 70s and 80s stuff as well. |
| Favorite books | Any thoughtful fiction or interesting biography will hold my interest. I've spent more than one afternoon (and some heard-earned cash) on books by Anne Lamott, Rick Bragg, Chaim Potok, Douglas Coupland, Jane Austen, Lucy Maud Montgomery and many others. I don't really do self-help or sci-fi, but almost everything else is fair game. |
