Introduction I'm The New York Times scent critic, and I write a column call "Scent Notes" that appears each Thursday on The Times website: http://themoment.blogs.nytimes.com/tag/scent-notes/ . I'm the author of three non-fiction books "A Separate Creation" about the biology of human sexual orientation, "The Emperor of Scent" about biophysicist and perfume genius Luca Turin's journey to create a new theory of how we are able to smell things, and "The Perfect Scent" about a year spent in Paris with Hermes perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena and in New York with Sarah Jessica Parker, watching each create a perfume. I'm also author of the novel "You Or Someone Like You," about an Englishwoman, Anne, and her Jewish-American Hollywood exec husband Howard, and what happens to their marriage when a crisis turns Howard back to the Orthodox Judaism he left behind to marry her.
Favorite Books "Memoir from Antproof Case" by Mark Helprin. "Foreskin's Lament" by Shalom Auslander.
