About me

LocationLondon Borough of Lewisham
IntroductionSwifts need our urgent help. Their numbers in the UK have been declining for years. Swifts cannot find places to nest and bring up their young because their nesting holes in our roofs, under our eaves and in cavities in our buildings are being blocked up. Swifts come to the UK from Africa every spring and summer to reproduce. We have a few swift colonies in the London Borough of Lewisham and our aim is to protect existing nests and try to establish new ones. It is important we know where swifts are in the Borough so we know where we can help them most. Please let us know where you see swifts flying and if you know where any are nesting. We are not swift experts but can offer general information, advice and encouragement to anyone interested in supporting our local swifts and giving them new homes. We are looking for residents, businesses, churches, libraries, schools and anyone who would be willing to have boxes on their buildings and will try to help as much as possible.
