| Introduction | Like all of us, a lot of very different strands - familial, social, educational, ecclesial and sporting among others - of a rich and complex Northern Irish and Scottish background have combined to make me the man I am today. I like to think of myself as a forward-looking and yet at the same time perhaps essentially conservative individual. Some might call that contradictory, but there are I think such contradictions deep within all of us. I'm fascinated by politics and I have to admit that I used to vote Conservative and Mrs Thatcher was my heroine when I was an undergraduate. I'm now less certain about political parties in general. I am, in spite of anything you may read in this blog, very happily married to the Domestic Commander (who is referred to in fear and trembling throughout this blog simply as The DC), and who has, I must say, been like a wife to me for more than a decade now. As far as I am aware, I don't have any children. My work is at Fettes College in Edinburgh where I am the Chaplain. |
