| Introduction | Cihat Duman was born in 1984 in Elaziz, and he grew up in Malatya. In 2005 he graduated from the Faculty of Law at Istanbul University. He works as a lawyer in Istanbul. He has published four books of poetry, Ya da Pişman Değilim [Or I Don’t Regret It] (2010), kızkardeşleşmek [becoming-sister] (2012) ve Bir Fil Müddeti [The Span of an Elephant] (2014), Olma Borcu [The Debt of Being] (2018) and a novel, Olay Beyoğlu’nda Geçiyor [The Event Takes Places in Beyoğlu] (2018). Bir Fil Müddeti was published in French in 2017 under the title L’espace d’un éléphant. He published the journals yeniyazı, HurdaSanat and Natama with his friends. In 2014, he acted in the film titled A Short Film about Wong Kar Wai. In 2019, with Memed Erdener, they prepared the exhibition titled We Are Bad Enough to Deserve Each Other. In 2015, after he was detained while trying to carry out a performance around a model of the Kaaba erected in Üsküdar, he filed a suit for compensation against the security forces who detained him for violating the Constitution, when the Constitutional Court rejected his demand, he filed a currently pending appeal at the European Court of Human Rights. |
