| Introduction | I have more than 20 years' experience (1981 to 2003) as a journalist in India and Dubai, specializing in selecting and editing news reports and features. From 2003 to 2019, I taught journalism and writing skills to master’s students at Commits, a media college in Bangalore. I joined Cactus Communications ("Serving Science Worldwide") as a copyediting freelancer on October 1, 2019. From the very beginning, I have enjoyed the challenge of working on a new assignment each day. I like to think of every article as a daily crossword puzzle that I need to solve by examining the clues closely. And, finally, when I submit the article that I have tended, I like to think, with love and care, I feel deeply satisfied. |
| Interests | Going on driving holidays; listening to blues and rock on Spotify or Amazon Music (if you want an eclectic playlist, let me know!); vigorous exercising at the gym—but now that the gym is not an option, I go for long, brisk walks in the evening whenever possible (most recently I covered approximately 10 kilometers walking from 5.06 p.m. to 7.06 p.m.); solving cryptic crosswords; playing Scrabble and Wordfeud online; and listening to podcasts about books, journalism, writing, and films and TV shows. |
| Favorite books | I am a voracious reader, and I read at least 2 books at the same time: 1 in the living room (where we have a bookshelf) and 1 in our bedroom (where we have another bookshelf). At the time of this writing, in the living room, I am reading The Man Upstairs and Other Stories, by that master of the English language, P.G. Wodehouse; in the bedroom I’m reading Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables. (Coincidentally, both books were first published more than a hundred years ago.) |
