Introduction Sasha Metallinou-Chaitow grew up between England and Greece, completing her secondary education in England. She lives in Athens where she paints portraits on commission and alchemically surrealist-symbolic images on inspiration, teaches English, works in translation, writes, conducts independent research in a variety of fields, including esotericism, mind and consciousness, and the esotericism of art. Sasha was the coordinator for Greece for the 2008 Esoteric Quest Conference, on the Ancient Greek Mysteries and Philosophy, hosted by the New York Open Centre on Samothrace, Greece. She also organizes and promotes gothic rock concerts on a regular basis, in collaboration with Dada Rock Club in Athens. She writes on a freelance basis for Avaton magazine, focusing on various esoteric topics, and occasionally lectures on historical esoteric currents within the World Religions course at the University of Indianapolis, Athens. Future projects include her next, solo art show, scheduled for Athens and possibly Thessaloniki in autumn/winter 2009, featuring themes from antiquity and her own take on alchemical iconography.
Interests Art, mystery, magic and the odd spot of mayhem. More specifically, I am a professional artist and a teacher. I have also just been awarded an MA in Western Esotericism at Exeter University, and gradually working my way into the fascinating world of obscure academia, in a very new and exciting field. Fantastic how academia lets you get away with anything if you dress it up right...
Favorite Movies Anything by Tim Burton, V for Vendetta, Lord of the Rings
Favorite Music Rock, hard rock, various kinds of goth rock/metal/atmospheric, neofolk, reggae on a sunny day
Favorite Books Too many to name, I'll list a few as I read. For recreation, good fantasy... and thank the stars for Philip Pullman. Right now I'm buried in bibliography of 17th century emblematics and alchemical symbolism.
