Introduction I started the Twin Cities Metro Osprey Watch program in 2008 after 15 years of working on the Twin Cites Osprey Reintroduction. I am monitoring all nests in the metro area, training and supervising volunteers who assist with this fieldwork and writing annual reports documenting data collected. We are looking at a variety of areas of research including an accurate productivity study, investigating behaviors such as extra pair copulation and mate fidelity, recruitement of young birds into the breeding population, establishment of new territories, age of first breeding, longevity of pair bonds, movement between nesting territories, etc. I have recieved no financial support, other than donations from supporters of the project, and am driven by passion and a committment to the wellbeing and survival of this species of Raptor. I always need help, so contact me if you would like to become involved with the monitoring or have questions about Ospreys. See full profile for list of publications.
Interests I have been studying Ospreys for 28 years.I worked as a wildlife technician on the Osprey Reintroduction project in the Twin Cites from 1994-2008. I have published three articles / papers about these magnificent raptors."Return of the Osprey" in the Minnesota Conservation Volunteer Magazine in March-April 2003, "Migration Routes, Reproduction and Lifespan of a Translocated Osprey" in the Wilson Journal of Ornithology, Volume 121, Number 1, March 2009 and "Two Year Old Nesting Behavior and Extra-Pair Copulation in a Reintroduced Osprey Population" in the Journal of Raptor Research, Volume 42, Number 2, June 2008. I trained a captive Osprey for the Raptor Center, the only fist trained Osprey in North America at that time (late 90's)and recieved a Special Achievement Award from them for that work. I have also been featured on Ron Schara's Minnesota Bound television program.
