| Introduction | I am the founder and Executive Director of EnGendeRights (http://www.engenderights.org). I drafted the EnGendeRights submission to the UN Human Rights Council First Universal Periodic Review (UPR) and made an oral intervention during the UPR in June 2008 in Geneva. I spearheaded the drafting of the collaborative Shadow Report submitted to the CEDAW Committee during its 36th Session in 2006 and orally presented the highlights of the Shadow Report during CEDAW-NGO dialogue in New York and actively lobbied with the CEDAW experts leading to the successful adoption of strong sexual and reproductive health and rights language in the CEDAW Committee’s Concluding Comments. I have a Juris Doctor degree from the Ateneo de Manila University School of Law (1993) and a Bachelor of Arts Major in Broadcast Communication from the UP, Diliman (1988). I was a Visiting International Legal Fellow at the Center for Reproductive Rights, New York, NY, from July 2002 to July 2003. I won two Supreme Court en banc cases (i.e., Pioneer Texturizing Corporation vs. NLRC (G.R. 118651) and Ang Ladlad LGBT Party vs. COMELEC together with several other lawyers (G.R. No. 190582)). |
