| Introduction | Upon arriving in Zihuatanejo , I was whisked off to Playa Blanca, ( a 7 minute car ride from the airport ), placed in a beach chair and handed a Margarita...and that's when the love affair began. I hadn't been on the ground more than 20 minutes, but as I surveyed the 15 kilometers of deserted white sand beach and the pounding surf, I decided this is it! I love this place! By the end of the week I had selected a property. It was a dilapidated shack with a pool resembling a grimy concrete block stuck in the sand, but only meters away was the Pacific Ocean. Beach front property?! Could this really be happening?! Back in Vancouver, when I showed the pictures of the property to my mother, she exclaimed "I must have it", and thus a partnership was formed. Designing the casa was the most fun ever! We dreamed and drew. We redesigned several times as we were made aware of the realities of beach life. The combination of sand and salt air is a formidable foe. You basically have to live like the Flintstones ...everything made of stone. Keeping it simple became our mantra. |
