| Introduction | I am a twenty-something college grad with a penchant for entomology and a particular fondness of bees. Apis mellifera is the scientific name of the honey bee, meaning "honey bearing" in Latin. Once the natural history of the honey bee was better understood, Linnaeus realized that they bore nectar, not honey, and tried unsuccessfully to change the name to Apis mellifica, meaning "honey making". |
