| Introduction | I have been involved in physics and physics teaching for thirty two years. I was in charge of graduate students teaching labs while I was a graduate student at the University of South Carolina. I then taught mechanical and nuclear engineering at the Naval Nuclear Power School at Orlando Florida. I went on a number of teaching gigs (Kansas State University, Louisiana College and The Alabama School of Mathematics and Science). I am married to an intelligent and sexy woman who is a librarian. I have a bright son who is very much like me living in town with his wife. I have a bright lovely daughter who is in transition from thinking I am cool to thinking I am stupid. |
| Interests | I am interested in making and having my students make scientific instrument. They are currently working on a magnetometer to survey west campus. If there is enough time this term they will survey a local confederate graveyard. My Robotics students are working on a modified Barbie Jeep that will navigate around campus using a GPS and a ping SODAR sensor to avoid obstacles. I am starting a course on nuclear engineering based on the Department of Energy handbook on Nuclear Physics. We will discus reactor technology and nuclear weapons. I am interested in growing my own food, from vegetables to milking my own goat and making cheese. I got really poor soil, so I am going to take a stab at hydroponics. I am reading the Lindsay Publication Book on making your own metal working shop. Hopefully I can get started on that this summer. |
