| Introduction | I am much the idealist. I feel I have a calling to serve my community, but now it exists only as such. Nothing I have done the past 5 years has succeeded, a trail of failures and missed opportunities. But I want to believe these failures have made me better and smarter. I think I'm a late bloomer in life. 10 years in Japan makes me feel as if my life was stopped and put on ice in a foreign land with a totally different set of issues and concerns. I dropped back into the place where I was born, and have been playing catchup ever since. I worry that destiny will resign me to eventually resulting in a big nothing, a might have been or really wasn't anything at all. I live with a tinge of fear each day for decisins I have made and ones yet to be made because I have not seen success since I returned from Japan, no American dream yet for me. But I, maybe foolishly, expect deliverance from this. And that's that. |
