| Introduction | Born in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania in 1856. Married Henry O. S. Heistand on 19 September, 1878, in Ohio, shortly after he graduated West Point Military Academy. We spent many years together traveling through much of the Western United States, living on one army outpost after another. It was at that time that I had the good and great fortune to meet so many American Indians. Their lives had a profound effect upon me and I'd like to share my observations of that long-ago culture of strength and power with you. Henry died in 1924 and I followed him 6 years later. We're both buried in Arlington National Cemetery. |
