Introduction | A while ago I was driving down a road in my Seattle neighborhood, on my way to the bank. It was an average errand, on an average day--except for the peacock. The peacock, you see, needed to cross the road that I happened to be driving on. He didn't seem to know that it wasn't normal for a peacock to cross a busy Seattle street at rush hour--especially when busy moms were in a hurry to get to the bank. No, he took his time and fanned his feathers at me, and it made me stop and think. Later that year I was headed home on a dark summer night. I was driving along Redondo Beach when I noticed a shadowy figure ahead and slowed down. The figure was a sea lion, freshly emerged from the Puget Sound. Its coat was still wet and glistening in the streetlight as it flapped its way across the crosswalk. As I approached my headlights frightened it back into the black Sound. Once again I marveled at the strange creature that had crossed my path and made my usual journey very unusual. And so I named my blog The Painted Peacock. I thought that was better than the Slimy Sea Lion. It might be interesting, and it might not be, but my journey into the world of blogging has begun. |

Which do you prefer and why: whittling with soap or whistling with wood?
Whittling with soap. I love things that smell good. And I can't whistle and I don't think wood would help.
