| Introduction | I am one of the incorporators of the long defunct "Living Salsa Museum" in Spanish Harlem, NYC, achieved by processing a charter with The New York State University Regents, awarded in June of 2001. The purpose of the "Living Salsa Museum" was to collect, preserve, expound, document, catalog, exhibit, interpret and revere all aspects of Salsa music, i.e., musical instruments, personal mementos, photography, journalism, literature, radio broadcasts, recordings, videos, and art. The Museum provided access to Salsa's LIVING icons: Their origins, evolution, and perpetuation. Our Board of Trustees and Inductees were palpable contributors to our daily acquisition process. Our mission included the departed eminences, pioneers, sidemen, and non-performers that sadly were, and in many cases, continue to be in peril of descending into anonymity. |
