| Introduction | The Toronto based collective, Octamerous, came together in 2006 to create their first work for the inaugural Nuit Blanche festival.Together they choreographed a piece in 24 hours drawing from each member to create the work, without the dominance of one choreographic voice. This collective method of creation has informed the approach of the group for the eight collaborations that have followed. The collective is committed to the deepest level of artistic collaboration on all projects, with a structure that evades hierarchy, drawing from each memberʼs personality and personal experience as a jumping off point, to add to the fabric of what is created. The result is the rejection of the choreographic ego, focusing instead on interweaving various choreographic and interpretive styles to one coherent idea. Throughout the process and in the finished product is evidence of an authentic representation of each collaborator. Collaborators: Amanda Acorn, Hannah Dorozio, Jasmine Ellis, Thom Gossage,Tera Hawes, Masuyo Higashide, Emily Law, Jennifer Lecuyer, Julia Male, Takako Segawa, Brian Soloman, Katie Stelmanis, Brodie Stevenson and Christopher Willes |
