Introduction I am the author of four books, most recently "Channeling Elvis: How Television Saved the King of Rock 'n' Roll." My other books include "The Beatles Ultimate Recording Guide, "David Crockett In Congress: The Rise and Fall of the Poor Man's Friend," written with James R. Boylston; and "Music of the Alamo: From 19th Century Ballads to Big-Screen Soundtracks," co-authored with William R. Chemerka.
Interests History, especially the early U.S. & the old West; pop culture, political/social issues.
Favorite Movies "Lonely Are The Brave"; Most 1930s-40s Universal Studios horror films, B-westerns and big westerns ("The Searchers, " "High Noon, " "Little Big Man, " etc.), film noir ("Maltese Falcon, " "The Stranger, " "Laura, " etc.); Sci-Fi like "The Time Machine, " "Mysterious Island, " and "Jason & the Argonauts"; "Thin Man" series; Christmas films, especially "A Christmas Carol" with Alastair Sim. And, yeah, "Casablanca" and "Citizen Kane." Far too many to list.
Favorite Music Jazz, classical, 50s-80s rock, blues, film soundtracks.
Favorite Books "A Tale of Two Cities, " "To Kill a Mockingbird, " John Mortimer's "Rumpole" stories and Colin Dexter's "Inspector Morse" books. Many on history, especially early U.S. history -- too many to list.
