| Introduction | “Mister I ain’t a boy, no I’m a man and I believe in a promised land” - the lyrics and music of Springsteen attracted me first about the US. One day I wanted to see the “Promised Land” with my own eyes. Throughout the years I developed a strong desire for experiencing US’ culture and society. Growing up in Leipzig’s little sister town Halle/Saale, I attended a high school emphasizing on language and humanities. After graduation and Civil Service, I was further drawn to the US by applying for a Job at a US Summer Camp. Working with families and kids at the Summer Camp, as well as visiting a wide array of differing places, really gave me an intense insight into the US’ social make-up, its overwhelming controversies, and its stand-alone characteristics. Back in Germany, Leipzig became the place to further pursue my interests in the US. Conclusively, I decided to apply for the American Studies Program. Today, the institute represents my academic haven. Interactively, I started to work as a journalist and news broadcaster. In order to gain further expertise in broadcasting, international politics and global affairs, I applied for representing the American Studies Institute in Ohio. |
