| Introduction | The small River LEMON is crossed by the lane going from the farmers’ village of Bickington to the market town of Newton Abbott in South Devon, England. The river is shallow, running between tree lined banks and buttercup meadows. It has been the favourite home for wagtails, dippers and otters in years gone by. The green shaded river crossing is a cool tranquil place halfway between Dartmoor and the sea at Teignmouth. It is good to listen to the water and relax here sitting on the granite bridge away from traffic and people where the ancient river crossing is called ‘LEMONFORD’. |
