| Introduction | Bonkers maybe - we bought a small plot of land in Chipping Campden Overgrown with weeds, derelict garage and dumped car but we love a challenge! "Crafty Cottage" will have a garden next to the River Cam in front of The Old Silk Mill where in 1902 Charles Ashbee brought his Guildsmen out of London and the Arts and Crafts history of Chipping Campden began. 6 cottages to the right of our site were where Guildsmen lived. We are building the cottage on what was once their "yard" a block of privys, a rubbish heap and a washing line used on a daily rota of 6 days.We want to continue the Arts & Crafts with its build and decor with William Morris fabric on the interior design, the man himself once a tenant of nearby Broadway Tower. We are using local craftsmen stone layers/carvers, joiners, electricians & plumbers. We are a small family run business "born and bred" in The Cotswolds! It will be used as a canvas to promote local arts and crafts past and present. .. and this is our blog! .... |
