About me

InterestsI am a British-Indian crime novelist based in the U.K. My work has been influenced by regular trips to India and by the great novelists of the past; Hemingway, Steinbeck, Chandler for his constant humour and R.K. Narayan to name a few. My debut novel, The House of Subadar was published in 2007 by Arcadia books Ltd, London. The novel told the story of a family losing everything in the Punjab and making a new start in Mumbai after a long journey. The novel was reviewed as ‘evocative’ by the UK national broadsheet, The Independent newspaper. It was also short-listed for the Glenn-Dimplex Literary Prize for new writers in 2008, Dublin. My short story, Pinto was published by Crocus Books in their anthology, followed by English Babu in their Migration Anthology. This led to a series of reading around the Northwest. My short story, Leaving the Reno, was published by Crocus Books in 2012 in their Moss Side Stories collection and was reviewed as the ‘outstanding story’ in the collection from an Arts Council officer. My short story, Maya, was selected as one of the winning entries from 1700 submissions to the international, ‘Inspired By Tagore’ competition in 2012, run by Sampad organisation in Birmingham. The book was launched in India as well as the U.K. My short story 'Haram' appeared in Outlookmagazine, India in Jan 2015. And my short story 'British Guide' was published in Indian Short fiction magazine. Feb 2015. My crime novel The Missing Husband was published by Crocus Books UK, in 2019. My new crime novel THE LOST WOMAN OF SANTACRUZ was published by Indian publishing house Leadstart in 2021. And has received good reviews in India. vijaymedtia@twitter.com vmedtia.blogspot.co.uk
