Occupation Farmer
Location Congerville, Illinois, United States
Introduction Bill is from Wellington, a town of 4,000 people in north central Ohio. Bill grew up spending most of his time outdoors … all in all, an idyllic childhood. His mother Dee was raised Old Order Amish, and his dad is a third generation mechanic. Bill has always been attracted to agriculture and worked on dairy farms during the summers. He pursued a B.S. in biology at the Univ. of Montana because he liked being outdoors working with plants and animals. Bill has an M.S. in biology and most recently worked as a Land Steward for The Nature Conservancy before he found his true calling and started to farm in 2003. His wife, Mercy, works as the Town Planner for Normal, IL. Bill and Mercy have two sons, Ben (5) and Noah (7). Bill has grown 2 acres of chemical-free fruit and vegetables for the past 5 years. He uses sustainable farming practices to produce authentic food of the highest quality. He has sold produce through a CSA, Chicago farmers markets, central Illinois farmers markets, restaurants and a small grocery store. Bill truly loves farming and believes he was meant to be a farmer.
