| Introduction | My name is Erin Slack, and I am an education student at Montclair State University. Upon graduation, I will have earned my Bachelor of the Arts degree in History and a teaching certificate in Social Studies. I have also completed a minor in Classics. I have enjoyed history for as long as I can remember, and it never ceases to amaze me. While many people believe that history is a stagnant entity of the past, I believe that it actually ebbs and flows and there’s always something new to learn or think about. It is also the only subject that is truly cross discipline, as it covers every aspect of our past. In a social studies class, students will encounter lessons based on anthropology, sociology, psychology, economics, geography, law, philosophy, religion, political science, various humanities, mathematics, and natural sciences. I believe that social studies is essential in our schools for a variety of reasons. Most importantly, Social Studies give students the social awareness that they will need to thrive well in our democratic republic. I have little free time these days, but in my spare time I like to keep the company of people I like and just relax. |
