| Introduction | I studied painting and drawing with many teachers over the years,but when I met Roger Armstrong,a well known master artist, my true painting emerged. Roger took me under his wing and showed me how to paint, not just with technique, but with my inner voice. He encouraged me to take risks and be brave-after all, it's just paper and paint. I had the fortune to be at his side for 7 years and much of my work has his looseness and freedom, there is no doubt he influenced my approach. Some call this California-style painting, but I just call it joy. He encouraged me to explore all mediums and I believe by doing so I learned to trust myself with painting. I paint in watercolor,pastels, oil, and acrylics depending on the subject. Artists are scribes of their time as Roger told me, and whenever I visit museums and works of artists past and present, I see that is so true. It is because of him that this class exists and I am fortunate to carry on his teaching. My hope is to help you listen and follow that inner artistic voice, take a chance, and paint with your true heart and emotion. After all, showing up to do the work is half the solution. Together we'll figure out the rest. |
