| Introduction | I am a Teacher with a M.Ed. in Special Education with more than 20 years of classroom and home experience. I believe that all children can learn and that children with disabilities are able to gain access to the general education curriculum throughout the school years through appropriate assistive technology adaptations, making it possible for all students to make appropriate gains in behavioral, curricular and instructional areas. I think schools should improve interdisciplinary collaboration with everyone involved with students with whom they work with. It is important to keep communication, open and honest and keep parents and other members of the team as involved as possible throughout the year. Schools should always demonstrate the values and goals of the school, ensuring a high level of achievement and a safe learning environment where everyone is engaged and all teachers are dedicated to teaching the basic academic skills to all students. It is important that schools ensure that students are held to high expectations every day and are reinforced for their efforts by giving them feedback so that they can learn from those efforts. |
