Introduction Madera Edwards current work on Plainfield NJ is a combination of archival and oral history designed to explore the aftermath of a forgotten suburban riot in 1967. Her interest in History developed as a student at the University of Michigan where she earned degrees in Musicology and History. Upon completion of her Masters, Madera began her doctoral work at Caspersen School of Graduate Studies at Drew University. She is currently working with her advisor Dr. Jeremy Varon on her dissertation "Somewhere in the Middle of The Story of Plainfield: Riot, Race Relations in Inner Suburbia." As a doctoral student, Madera has worked as a student representative, as orientation chair for four consecutive years, and in student activities throughout her time at the University. Her work has led her to present her work at the New Jersey Historical Society and at conferences throughout the US. She is currently a PAGE (Publically Active Graduate Education Fellow) 2008-2009. Madera has also held a part-time faculty position at Fairleigh Dickinson University since 2002 where she teaches in the Humanities and CORE department.
