| Introduction | Klaus-V. Peinemann is a Professor of Chemical Engineering. He is now Professor Emeritus at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in SaudiArabia (KAUST) and an Honorary Professor at the Leibniz University, Hannover, Germany. He started his work at KAUST in 2009, where he was a Full Professor from 2011 till 2018. Before joining KAUST, he was for 23 years a researcher at a Research Center of the Helmholtz Association in Northern Germany. He was President of the European Membrane Society from 2002 to 2004. Peinemann cofounded the company GMT Membrantechnik GmbH in 1995. Today, the company is a successful producer of membranes and modules for gas and liquid separation.
