| Introduction | Fuchsia Focus was created to offer critique and analysis of the media portrayals of the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) community. Fuchsia Focus recognizes the all-consuming nature of the mainstream media within our society and seeks to offer analysis of the explicit messages the media sends to consumers. Although LGBTQ representation in the media has increased exponentially in recent years the construction of our community remains one dimensional and reliant upon oppressive stereotypes. The goal of FF is to offer critique of the representations of queer bodies and lives in the media, by challenging their authenticity and shining light on the underlying messages these portrayals send about our lives, bodies, and communities. |
