| Introduction | As the first VP, Research of the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) and Scientific Director of the CCS Research Institute, I had oversight of all of the Society’s research programs across the country: a cancer research portfolio of between $40 and $50 Million annually. Prior to these appointments I served the National Cancer Institute of Canada (NCIC) in two successive capacities – as Executive Director for 7 years, and prior to that as Director of Research Programs for more than 10 years. In total, I have almost 35 years of experience encompassing the academic, biotechnology and not-for-profit sectors. Prior to the NCIC, I worked at Allelix Biopharmaceuticals Inc. in Toronto in various senior research capacities, and was a Research Scientist and Group Leader at Toronto's Connaught Research Institute. I hold a B.Sc. degree from the University of Toronto (1974), and a Ph.D. degree in molecular biology from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario (1978). I did further training as a Post-Doctoral Fellow of the Medical Research Council of Canada, working in the fields of molecular biology and gene expression at the University of Calgary Medical School (1978 through 1981). |
