IntroductionMy name is Ed Kaatz, I retired from the Marine Corps after 24 year of service. One of the most challenging assignments that I encountered, and believe me there were many, I was assigned as the Director of the Family Service Center, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego after Desert Storm. One of the first mandates I received was to design and implement a Military Transition Program, the very first of its kind since the Vietnam War. The original intent was to provide a transition service to approximately 50 Marines and Sailors per week. As we drew on the San Diego community and former service members lending their job hunting experiences, the numbers started to increase and finally capped at 250 per week and standing room only.
InterestsIF YOU’RE MOVING from a military career to a civilian one whether after returning from mobilized duty as a reservist, separating from the service or retiring you’re facing more than a job change. You’re facing a whole new world. And especially in today’s challenging job market, how well you prepare your switch from the service to civilian life will have a major effect on how smooth. I have made that transition and want to share that experience with you.
